Lehmann Claims There Is Something Mikel Arteta Must “Change” About Himself If Arsenal Are To Win The Premier League

Arsenal ‘Invincible’ Jens Lehmann says Gunners boss Mikel Arteta must become a more attacking coach if the London club are to become Premier League champions again.

The Spaniard has been accused of being too cautious in his tactical approach and Lehmann believes it is something that he must “change” if they are going to finish top of the table next season:

“He has to win next year. This year, they could have won [the Premier League], Man City dropped a little bit, Liverpool replaced them. Next year, he has to win, but he probably needs to change his personality a little bit to win things because sometimes, it’s [about] control and being cautious.”

“But if you want to win some things, in my opinion, you could be a little more risky. But that’s next year – next week [against PSG] is super important, I cross my fingers that they will score two goals and will not concede one.”

Mistakes in the transfer market have cost Arsenal

If you look at the club’s transfer business last summer, the club’s struggles in attack could have been foreseen. They sold Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe and loaned out Fabio Vieira whilst only Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino were brought in on a permanent basis,.

The decision to spend in excess of £40m on Calafiori seems strange in hindsight. That money could have been better spent on replacing either Nketiah or Smith Rowe.

Arteta needs to add firepower

Reinforcing the forward line has to be a priority over the coming weeks and months. In addition to a new No.9, one or two additional wingers should be brought in as well.

The key difference between Liverpool and Arsenal this campaign is goals. The former have scored 80 in the league while the latter have only found the back of the net on 63 occasions.

Adding more firepower to the attack will help turn some of the 13 draws they have recorded this season into wins.
