“They’re Good Enough” – Michael Owen Makes Bold Champions League Prediction About Arsenal

TNT Sports pundit Michael Owen says Arsenal are “good enough” to win the Champions League this season.

While he believes it will be a “massive” ask” for Mikel Arteta’s side to go all the way, Owen still feels that the Gunners are one of the top contenders in the competition:

“On ability, I think they’re the second or third-best team in it. Can I see them going all the way based on this inexperience? Possibly, it’s their first season, it’s a massive ask. But they’re good enough, ability-wise.”

Owen did temper his words by claiming that Arsenal‘s lack of experience in the Champions League may ultimately cost them this campaign.

He maintains that current holders Manchester City are the favourites to retain the trophy but Arteta’s men are likely to be one of their main challengers.

Do the bookies agree with Owen’s remarks?

Most bookmakers have the Gunners as fourth favourites behind City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to win the Champions League, so Owen is not far off by saying they are the second or third-best team.

The shortest odds you can find for the London club to lift the trophy are 15/2 at Coral and Ladbrokes, putting them ahead of teams like Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid and last season’s finalists Inter Milan.

Arsenal’s win against Sevilla puts them in a good position

Defeat against Lens in their second group game did put the Gunners on the back foot but, after securing the three points versus Sevilla on Tuesday evening, they top their group.

While there is still some work to do to secure qualification for the knockout stages, they have put themselves in pole position after 3 matches. They face Sevilla at the Emirates in the reverse fixture next up on November 8th.
