Martin Odegaard Says He “Can Already See The Quality” In Viktor Gyokeres In Arsenal Training

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has said that he can “already see the quality” in new Gunners’ signing Viktor Gyokeres.

The Gunners signed striker Gyokeres from Portuguese side Sporting CP for a fee of around £64m to to finally solve their striker woes, as they have been looking for a number nine for several years now.

Last season, Gyokeres managed to score 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting; He was without a doubt one of the best strikers in Europe last year, and many believe that he could recreate his form under Mikel Arteta.

Upon his arrival, he joined up with the Gunners’ squad on their pre-season tour, he could make his first appearance against rivals Tottenham in their meeting on Thursday afternoon. Many Arsenal fans will be clamouring to watch the new number 14 hopefully hit the ground running with a goal.

Odegaard already enamoured by Gyokeres

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has been speaking to Arsenal’s Official Website about Gyokeres’ arrival, and the Norwegian star already revealed how impressive the 27-year-old looked in training.

Odegaard said: “I think you’ve all seen what he’s done in his career so far. Especially the last season at Sporting, the numbers speak for themselves. He’s a very complete player. He’s physical, strong, fast, good finisher, and intelligent as well. I think he’s a very complete striker.

“You can also see the hunger, the energy he brings. I’m really excited to have him with the team. He’s only trained a few times, but you can already see the quality, the energy, and the willingness.”

Odegaard was also quick to point out that him being from Scandinavia has helped him welcome Gyokeres to the team, and into the Arsenal environment.

He said: “With the language and everything, it’s been easier for me to help him. We can speak our own language. Scandinavians, they always bond well together. So, in that way, it’s been really natural. But to be fair, it’s like with any player. Every new player, we try to help them in the best possible way.”
