Ex-Arsenal defender Lee Dixon says he can see chinks in the armour of title rivals Liverpool following recent results.
Speaking after the Reds dropped points to Aston Villa on Wednesday night, Dixon claimed that performances in the last 3 games, along with a formation change, indiscipline from players and the manager’s red card against Everton are all indications they are feeling the pressure:
“We saw the Everton game last week, that was a struggle The second half against Wolves, that was a struggle. Tonight, it was open-ended it could have gone either way that game, so there are seeing signs.”
“Slot has been sent off, we are seeing a bit of indiscipline, he changed the team and the formation tonight, which he normally doesn’t.”
“There are a few little things that give all us a lot of room to think there is a chance [for Arsenal close the gap], and there definitely is a chance, but it is still Liverpool’s to lose.”
Arsenal have to take advantage
It is undoubtedly a boost for Mikel Arteta‘s side that their rivals drew midweek but it must be pointed out the Reds are eight points ahead of the Gunners in the table.
That game in hand is only useful if they take advantage. It means getting a victory against West Ham on Saturday is absolutely vital to keep up the pressure.
Putting a run of results together
Of course, it is not just about winning this weekend. In order to stay in the title race, Arsenal have to string together a succession of victories.
That will be all the more difficult considering the club don’t really have a recognised striker fit and available. It is still a long shot for Arteta’s men but, as Dixon points out, the form of Liverpool has given them some hope.
