Ian Wright Pinpoints The Reason Why Arsenal Won’t Have To Worry About Chelsea As Title Challengers This Season

Arsenal legend Ian Wright says he expects the title race to be a two-horse race between the Gunners and Manchester City again this season.

Chelsea have been throwing money around in the transfer market but, even though they’ve signed an excellent player in Moises Caicedo, Wright claims the lack of a goalscorer will ultimately prove their downfall as challengers at the top of the table:

“It’s a great move for Moises Caicedo, especially because he’ll be playing alongside Enzo Fernandez. I think Enzo and Caicedo will be the two in front of the defence that will really solidify it.”

“But in respect of them being a challenge [to Man City and Arsenal], I don’t know who is going to score the goals for them. I think Chelsea will be in and around it. I still feel that Arsenal will be up there, without a shadow of a doubt.”

Wright has recognised a key flaw in Chelsea’s rebuild

For all the money that the Blues have spent over the last year, the fact that they haven’t signed a world-class striker is perplexing considering how poor they were in front of goal last season. They scored just 38 times.

While they have brought in both Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku in recent months, the former is an unproven talent while the latter is now expected to miss the first half of the campaign with a knee injury.

Arsenal are not lacking firepower

In contrast, the Gunners are overflowing in terms of options upfront. Manager Mikel Arteta has 4 centre-forwards if we include Kai Havertz, with Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun also in the squad.

In wide areas, he can call upon Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Reiss Nelson, Leandro Trossard and Emile Smith Rowe, and there are even rumours that another winger could be brought in before the transfer window closes.
