“You Won’t Be Remembered” – Gary Neville Sends Harsh Message To Arsenal Boss Arteta Following Man City Draw

Gary Neville has said that Mikel Arteta won’t be remembered if he doesn’t win a league title with Arsenal.

The Gunners come off a 1-1 draw against rivals Man City where they managed to salvage a point after a last minute equaliser from Gabriel Martinelli, who has now scored two goals in two games.

Manager Mikel Arteta won’t be happy however, as it saw his side drop five points behind league leaders Liverpool, and hoping that Arne Slot’s side slip up in the coming weeks.

Before the game against City, Arteta came under a lot of criticism for picking a “safe” team. He chose both Mikel Merino and Leandro Trossard over the likes of Eberechi Eze, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, something that many saw as a lack of risk and a lack of a ‘going for it’ attitude.

Neville says Arteta won’t be remembered as Arsenal boss

Gary Neville was one such pundit who criticised Arteta’s team selection, not necessarily for picking bad players, but players that were almost too safe, compared to his other options.

Neville said after the game on Sky Sports: “He’s [Arteta] done a great job, but, you’ve got to win a title, otherwise you won’t be remembered. Is he going to take the risk, is he going to send his players the message that ‘I am going for it, that I believe in you’.

“The team sheet comes through and I see that Trossard and Merino are on it. I can’t help thinking, I’m not going to look at what a manager says, I’m going to look at what he does. His actions at half time are the actions of a manager who got it wrong. Arsenal need to take the handbrake off.”

Neville referenced the fact that at half time, Arteta made two changes, bringing on Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka, something that he thinks the Arsenal boss should have done at the start of the game.
