Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has said that Arsenal star Eberechi Eze is the difference between the Gunners last year and this year.
Arsenal are fully embroiled in their chase for a Premier League title under Mikel Arteta, sitting top of the league table by one point over Liverpool, and three over Man City. They most recently won 2-0 against West Ham and are now the favourites to win the league according to pundits, bookmakers and simulations.
Arteta will now hope his players can stay fit during the international break, and come back strong against Fulham, which is the first game in a favourable run of fixtures. It feels like their best chance to win the Premier League.
Danny Murphy agrees, as he said on talkSPORT: “The expectation now can’t be any higher, there is no excuse. [For Arsenal to win the league].
He also highlighted Arsenal’s squad depth, and said that Eberechi Eze is a huge dufference maker in attack compared to last year. “They look like they’ve got every base covered to me.” Murphy added. “They are covered in every position, they’ve got this little sprinkling of stardust in attacking areas now that gives them something different with Eze for example. There’s no panic now.”
Can Eze be the difference for Arsenal? – Analysis
Much of the criticism of Arsenal in recent years is that Arteta has played a ‘safe’ style of football, and that sometimes in attack they can be predictable and overly patient.
However, the signing of Eze jumps out as a real step in a more creative direction, because it is impossible for Eze to play predictable football. He has the technical ability on the ball, and the pace, and the creativity to help the Gunners to attack in ways that they weren’t able to last season.
So far, he has been more of a creator for the Gunners rather than a goal scorer, but it will only be a matter of time until he starts netting goals himself too. He could be the most impactful signing of Arsenal’s summer transfer window.
