Wright Warns That Arsenal Could Lose 3 Key Players If Next Transfer Window Does Not Go To Plan

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes that Bukayo Saka, Gabriel and William Saliba will be reluctant to sign contract extensions if the club doesn’t show more ambition in the transfer market.

The trio will have two years remaining on their current deals at the end of the season and Wright claims their agents will tell them to wait and see how the summer window pans out before committing their long-term futures to the Gunners:

“When you’re talking about renewals with certain players, Saka, Gabriel [Magalhaes], Saliba, the way they’re moving now, I bet those renewals are all going to be slow. We’re going to have a situation maybe like Liverpool with Trent, Salah and Virgil.

“If I’m one of these players, and their teams are going to be saying, ‘Let’s wait and see, we’ve got two years left so let’s wait and see who they get in the summer. ‘I know the manager has signed again but let’s wait and see.’

“If they’re not going to get the kind of players that take us to the next step, look at Saliba. Real Madrid would take him tomorrow. Why not wait and see what’s going on in the summer to see the kind of players and calibre of player we’re signing. This is what the people upstairs need to be careful of.”

Arsenal are expected to spend big this summer

Many supporters were frustrated that the club did not make significant moves in January but a lot of that was down to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

Mikel Arteta’s side have spent heavily in recent seasons and any purchases before the next accounting year would have put them in danger of breaching PSR.

As of July 1st though, the Gunners will be in a strong position to spend again so you would suspect that Wright’s concerns are unwarranted.

Arteta has remained tight-lipped on new contracts

When asked directly about Saka and Saliba’s future ahead of the game versus Nottingham Forest, Arteta did not give too much away, other than saying the club will be proactive in negotiating new deals:

“I think those communications or decisions are made over time so we understand when we have to act. Players and agents are fully aware of the intentions of the club are. And in the right moment we have these discussions.”
