Peter Schmeichel Says 2 Arsenal Fixtures Will “Play A Very Big Part” In Deciding The Title Race

Former Manchester United and Manchester City goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel says Arsenal’s two matches against Bayern Munich in the Champions League will have a bearing on the Premier League title race.

The quarter-final tie will take a lot of energy out of the players ahead of key league fixtures and Schmeichel claims the impact of the games should not be underestimated during the run-in.

“Everyone is pointing to Arsenal now but they have a few challenges coming up, the first one is Bayern Munich. It’s one thing playing in the Premier League and getting on a roll but you need to play another way in the Champions League so these Bayern games will play a very big part in the title race.”

“They’re not too experienced with this, either. They needed penalties to beat Porto remember. You have to keep the momentum in a title race and I look at those Bayern games, if they get through them I think they will win the Premier League.”

Who do Arsenal play after the two Bayern ties?

Following the first leg against the Bundesliga champions at the Emirates on Tuesday night, the Gunners take on Aston Villa. With the game also being at home and, with there being a five-day gap between the two fixtures, Mikel Arteta‘s side should be pretty well prepared. Of course, Villa are not an easy opponent to face but the players won’t be carrying any heavy legs into the match.

Things will, however, get more intense around the second leg. Arsenal have just 3 days to prepare for the trip to the Allianz Arena, and they then play away from home versus Wolves the following Saturday.

Of course, if Arteta’s men can secure a comfortable first-leg lead against Bayern, it will make things easier, but we shall have to wait and see how things pan out.
