Arsenal need to buck their ideas up and go for the big time

It is looking increasingly likely that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is going to agree a contract extension in north London, a decision which will cause a rift between fans, larger than we’ve seen at many Premier League clubs.

The decision will not go down well at all in some corners of The Emirates and, with that in mind, the Frenchman will have to act quickly to appease those against him.

One sure fire way to calm tempers is to do what anyone does when a relationship goes through a rough patch, shower the other with gifts. In this sense that would be some big money signings this summer.

Recent reports have suggested that the former Monaco boss is ready to reinvent himself, after over two decades at the club, and go all out in terms of the summer window and overhaul his squad for one last shot at success.

With that in mind, it is no surprise that the Gunners are being linked with someone new everyday, however, there are some links that would be of concern to those in the stands.

Southampton midfielder Dusan Tadic has recently come out in criticism of manager Claude Puel, a protege of Wenger’s, for not giving him enough time on the pitch this season, leading to suggestions he is ready to leave the south coast side this summer.

There is no doubting the Serbian’s talent, however, is someone that can’t even get 90 minutes for Southampton really the man to save Wenger’s Arsenal career this summer? Of course not.

He’s a highly technical player, with great vision and the capability to get himself a goal here and there across the season, however, he should be nowhere near that Arsenal side.

Should Wenger stay on another season in a bid to end his Arsenal career on a high, then he’ll have to do more than a wantaway Southampton winger to get fans back on side, and he has the power to.

Despite their recent failings Arsenal remain one of the biggest clubs in world football, they are by far the biggest club in London and not too far behind Manchester United in terms of clubs in this country, they’re in a highly exclusive circle.

With that in mind, the Gunners need to be chasing the creme of footballing talent, pitch them the idea of a no holds barred season under one of the most revered managers in world football and kick on for one last glorious season under Wenger.

It sounds fantastical but it should be more than achievable. Should those with the money back their man to go out and deliver with a star studded squad, fans in north London may well have something to look forward to.
