Arsenal Named As One Of Three PL Clubs Interested In £25m Rated Defender

Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton are all interested in signing Manchester United defender Chris Smalling, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The 30-year-old is currently on loan at Roma, but the Giallorossi have been struggling to negotiate a transfer fee with the Red Devils to sign him on a permanent basis.

It is claimed that United want at least £25m for Smalling and that is believed to be outside of Roma’s price range unless they qualify for the Champions League this season.

The Gunners could, therefore, hijack the transfer in the summer when his loan in Italy comes to an end. Mikel Arteta’s side do already have six centre-backs (including William Saliba who is out on loan at Saint-Etienne) but there could also be departures at the end of the season.

Sokratis has spoken out in recent weeks that he could consider leaving the Emirates if he isn’t afforded more game time, while Pablo Mari may return to Flamengo if Arsenal opt against signing him permanently.
