Arsenal Named As One Of Four Clubs Pursuing Free Transfer Deal For Serie A Playmaker

Arsenal have looked into the possibility of signing AC Milan attacking midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu on a free transfer, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Turkish international’s contract at the San Siro expires at the end of the season and the Gunners, along with Leicester City, Juventus and Inter Milan are said to be weighing up moves for the playmaker.

Calciomercato do, however, say that previous reports claiming that Manchester United are interested in Calhanoglu are untrue and that there has been no “real negotiation” between the two parties about a possible transfer.

In fact, the 26-year-old is reportedly keen on staying at Milan. Discussions are being held about extending his current deal until 2024 but it is believed that the player is demanding a sizeable increase on his €2.5m a year salary.

With Mesut Ozil almost certain to leave at the end of his contract next summer, Arsenal are likely to be on the lookout for a new no.10 but it seems unlikely that they will be signing Calhanoglu as his replacement.
