Arsenal Miss Out On Turkey’s Rising Star

Arsenal have lost the battle for one of Europe’s most promising players. Turkish international Hakan Calhanoglu has decided to join Bayer 04 Leverkusen despite Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool’s interest in the youngster’s signature. The 20 year old who was a key player for both Hamburg and Karlsruher SC decided to stay in the Bundesliga for the next five years. According to talkSPORT, the whole deal cost Leverkusen £11million which would have not been too much for Arsenal considering their £100 million transfer budget.

Wenger decided to pass on this transfer though as he plans to sign Alexis Sanchez who has a similar profile to that of the Turkish international. Arsenal will also be focusing on signing at least one more goalkeeper and a striker which are currently considered priorities.

Calhanoglu who despite being a winger, has been often compared to Ozil, was linked to Arsenal since last year. He would have made a great addition to Wenger’s side which has serious squad depth problems. Hopefully Wenger will complete the squad with some star-quality players. Apparently the Frenchman has made his first transfer by bringing in Debuchy and he is set on closing his second deal which involves Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez. He should move fast considering the fact that the first Premier League clash is only a few weeks away.
