Napoli are planning to make a bid of €25m (£21m) for Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira in the January transfer window, according to Il Mattino.
The Naples based newspaper claims that the Serie A side will initially propose a loan offer but if that move fails, they will try to sign the player on a permanent basis instead.
Torreira has had a tough second season with the Gunners and has not always been first choice. He has played more regularly since Freddie Ljungberg was appointed interim head coach but the player continues to be linked with a return to Italy.
In the summer, the 23-year-old was targeted by AC Milan and while no move materialised, the midfielder has stopped short of committing his long term future to the club.
Even so, £21m is unlikely to be enough for Arsenal. They paid Sampdoria £26m for Torreira eighteen months ago, and selling for a loss isn’t something they would probably consider.
