Former Premier League Midfielder Says Arsenal “Really Ready” To Beat Manchester City To Premier League Title

Former Premier League midfielder Jason McAteer has said that he believes Arsenal are ready to win the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners have fallen short in the past two seasons being five and then two points away from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Premier League.

However, this season, they have 17 points from seven games and remain unbeaten coming off the back of a 3-1 win over relegation-tipped Southampton before the international break.

Jason McAteer believes that the Gunners are ready to win the league and was quick to praise the club’s recruitment over the past couple of years. He told Gambling Zone: Arsenal have made so much progress over the last couple of seasons. Mikel Arteta has fine-tuned them into an outfit that challenges City.

“I think at this moment in time, they’re really ready to win it. Last season and the season before, there was a question about mentality. Can they last the pace? Will injuries affect them? I think they’ve bought really well in the last three or four windows, to bolster the squad with quality.”

Arsenal already managed to rattle Manchester City this season

The Gunners have already met with Manchester City this season in a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium in late September. It could be argued that they had control during the game despite being down to 10 men.

City took until the 97th minute to equalise through John Stones denying Arsenal a famous win which would have put them ahead of their title rivals.

Arsenal pundit Chris Wheatley said that something changed about the way the City players reacted after the game. He said on the Chris Wheatley show: “They’ve got under the skin of City and not many teams are able to do that. I think Arsenal now are looking like they can win the Premier League title.”

The rivalry between Manchester City and Arsenal has become a heated one as the two battle for the Premier League title. Furthermore, the storyline of Mikel Arteta going from Guadiola’s apprentice to his competitor adds an extra level of intensity.
