Arsenal Manager Reportedly Keen On Shock Swoop For Ex Chelsea Full Back In January

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is weighing up a move for Atletico Madrid full-back Filipe Luis in the January transfer window, according to Kickoff.co.uk.

The former Chelsea defender’s contract expires at the end of the season and could be available relatively cheaply when the market reopens at the turn of the year.

Luis was reportedly the subject of a €5m bid from Paris Saint-Germain before the window closed last month, and it is not known whether the French club are still keen to sign the Brazilian. At the time AS said that Atletico were demanding €30m for the defender.

The 33-year-old is no longer an automatic first choice at left-back for Atletico with France international Lucas Hernandez also vying for a place in the starting eleven.

Speaking to beIN Sports about reports linking him with PSG, Luis denied the rumours that he wanted to leave, stating his agent only contacted the club to see if his contract will be extended:

“Three weeks ago I arranged a meeting with the club to let them know about my situation. I was told that the club didn’t want me to leave – so I didn’t push the matter any further. I’m fine where I am here at Atletico.”
