Arsenal have made enquiries about Roma goalkeeper Pau Lopez, according to ASRomaLive.it. The Italian website claims the Gunners have “tested the ground” as to whether the Serie A club would be prepared to sell their number one.
Manager Mikel Arteta is said to be keen on signing two keepers this summer after selling Emi Martinez to Aston Villa and with doubts over the future of third choice Matt Macey. They have already had a number of bids turned down by Brentford for David Raya while they are also poised to sign Runar Alex Runarsson from Dijon.
However, Lopez would offer stronger competition for Bernd Leno. The Spaniard only signed from Real Betis for €23.5m (£21m) in 2019 and he made 42 appearances for the Italian side in all competitions last season.
ASRomaLive.it do, though, report that the player himself is “not convinced” about the move. He is not sure he wants to make the switch to England, while he is also concerned whether he’d get sufficient game time.
