Arsenal Make Real Madrid Playmaker ‘Main Target’ But Face Battle With PL Rival

Arsenal have made Real Madrid attacking midfielder James Rodriguez a “main target” for the January transfer window, according to DirectTV Sports.

The TV channel claims that the Gunners are “willing to negotiate” the transfer of the Colombian international this month with head coach Mikel Arteta keen to strengthen his options in the middle of the park.

Real are reportedly not willing to let Rodriguez leave on loan again, following the failure of his move to Bayern Munich, so they are looking for a permanent sale before the transfer window closes.

The 28-year-old has barely featured under manager Zinedine Zidane this season, having made just six starts, and 11 appearances in total, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Arsenal will, however, face competition from Everton. Manager Carlo Ancelotti has worked with Rodriguez at both Real and Bayern, and was looking to sign the Colombian for Napoli last summer. He is now keen on bringing him to Goodison Park.
