Arsenal have made an enquiry about signing Valencia forward Rodrigo as they prepare for life without captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to the Mirror.
The Spaniard currently has a £110m release clause but the Gunners are hoping that the 29-year-old could be available for as little as £45m when the transfer window reopens.
Rodrigo is a regular in the Spanish national side but his goal record this season will raise a few eyebrows among Arsenal supporters.
The striker has scored just twice in La Liga, with five goals in all competitions, but he has managed to contribute 11 assists.
It is unlikely, therefore, that Rodrigo will be seen as a direct replacement for Aubameyang, with the Spanish international probably being eyed as a support striker for either Alexandre Lacazette or Eddie Nketiah.
The Valencia star is equally capable of playing from the right-wing or in a deeper-lying position, and manager Mikel Arteta may well have a very specific role in mind for the player.
