Arsenal Make Further Room In Squad With Bendtner Departure

The Gunners signed the Dane back in 2005 as a relatively unknown entity and after progressing through the club’s youth ranks, the enormous striker broke into the first team and managed to get a string of games during the 2010-2011 season.

However, he has not donned the Arsenal jersey since then,  as he was sent out on successive loans, first to Sunderland for the 2011-2012 season, followed by another stint at Italian champions Juventus last season. His loan arrangements have not helped his cause as he has failed to impress on each of his outings. He failed to establish himself as a first-choice starter at Sunderland and was also used very sparingly by Juventus.

Now that he is back at Arsenal, the club and the player have both decided that a permanent sale will be the best option for both parties involved. As a result, a handful of clubs have registered their interest in taking the 25-year old. The names of Borussia Monchengladbach, Eintracht Frankfurt and Besiktas have been doing the rounds.

Bendtner was reported by SkySports as saying that Arsenal have agreed bids from a few clubs and that the final decision of which club to join rests with him. He said, “Arsenal have agreed with five clubs so now it is up to me to make a choice.”

“I will make that choice within the next 14 days. They are all good clubs. It is a hugely important choice I’m faced with. I must go where I am wanted. As a footballer, there is only one thing that can make you happy: playing time.”

Bendtner also acknowledges the fact that he will have to move to a club which is perhaps not as prestigious as Arsenal, but feels that this is the right move for him in the long run. He added, “Will it be good for me to go to a big club where I risk the bench? No, I’d rather go somewhere where the club is located just below the top where I can play every week,” he said.

“I can take a step back to take three forward.”
