Arsenal Lose Third Place After Losing Two Points Vs Everton

Arsenal faced Everton in a very physical clash on Tuesday night that ended up with a 0-0 result. The Gunners were very motivated to win, but did not manage to find gaps in their adversaries’ defensive line. After losing two important points at home they were surpassed by Chelsea who beat Fulham 3-0 at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night and Chelsea are now one point ahead and have one game in hand on the Gunners. According to Metro, Wenger expressed his disappointment with the way Everton approached the game by saying that they were too aggressive and that they did not come to Emirates to win. The tension was high both on and off the pitch. The only memorable thing that remained after the match was the fact that Wilshere almost fought with Mirallas on their way to the dressing room. When going down the tunnel, Mirallas provoked Arsenal’s midfielder by squirting him with a bottle of water. Even if the gesture was very hard to observe, the results may have been pretty violent.

Arsenal’s player pushed Mirallas and grabbed him by the back of the neck, but things were quickly stopped by players surrounding the two. It looks like the incident was not a major one. The FA considered it but decided no action needs to be taken, seeing that nothing actually happened. Both Wilshere and Everton’s Belgian player will not have to face any punishment, which is good news for both teams. The Gunners and the Toffees are fighting for a place in a European competition and losing important players could cost them dearly.

This incident is not actually worth analyzing especially considering the pressure that surrounds Emirates. Even if it may sound farfetched, the clubs’ future is closely related to the fact that they may or may not qualify for next years’ Champions League. Major investments are about to be made, but only if the Gunners manage to finish in the top four. If not, several big players may end up leaving Emirates after a 7 year trophy-less losing streak. They managed a pretty good ten matches out of which they won 8. The next fixture against Fulham is all that Wenger and his team need to think about right now.
