Arsenal Looking To Sign 38 Year Old Defender

The Gunners could get an unexpected addition to the squad as Wenger is considering signing 38 year old veteran Mario Yepes. According to Metro, Arsenal managed to somehow miss out on several central defenders who were up for grabs. Even though they managed to strengthen the attack and both left-back and right-back positions, they failed to bring in a replacement for Vermaelen. Despite being a substitute for either Mertesacker or Koscielny, the Belgian international, played an important role during last season. After he joined Barcelona, a gap remained unfilled even though options were many.

Chambers was thought to be a solution for replacing Arsenal’s former captain but Wenger begs to differ. It seems that the youngster will not be playing as a center-back as many expected. Experts said that he will be turned into the perfect central defender even though the player insisted he will be fighting with Debuchy for a spot on the right side of the defense.

Yepes could represent a short term solution though especially considering the fact that Arsenal’s squad problems have yet to be resolved. Injury wise, the Gunners are known for always being on top of the list. With just one month gone out of this season, they already have two important players out.

As of July, Yepes was a free agent. Since 2009 he moved from team to team without any transfer fee being paid. Even so, he could still represent a decent last resort if something were to happen with either of the two central defenders Wenger is currently counting on.
