Arsenal Looking Into Short Term Replacements

News according to which ex-Chelsea striker, Salomon Kalou may be available for a transfer recently emerged. The 28 year old who is now playing for French side, Lille apparently expressed his desire to return to the Premier League after just one season spent in Ligue 1. It seems that Arsenal might be in the pole-position for reaching an agreement with the Ivorian who would represent decent competition for Giroud who is not currently challenged by anyone as far as his spot on the first team goes.

Chelsea’s former striker, who was never a first choice for the Blues, scored 36 goals in 156 appearances. This would be an acceptable rate for a striker if you don’t consider the fact that he spent 6 years at Stamford Bridge. Wenger is still considering Kalou who according to the Daily Mail, has a 2.5 million pound buy-out clause. The news regarding his possible departure came from people close to the Ivorian who apparently is insistent on a return to England.

This would not be the first time Kalou has been linked to the Gunners. There were rumors that Chelsea’s striker was about to move to Emirates in January, 2012 but the transfer did not go through because of money problems. Apparently, Kalou did not agree on a pay cut and stayed with the Blues.

The Ivorian may have another chance to return to the Premier League as WBA seemed interested in signing him over the summer. Even so, his options are open considering his age and the fact that he managed a good run while playing for Lille.

Meanwhile Arsenal will probably keep searching for a younger more efficient striker that will take the pressure off of Giroud and also keep him performing at the highest possible level each and every time. Benzema looks like a great player to invest in but he also seems hard to transfer. Real already sold Ozil to Arsenal and it is very unlikely to let their striker leave and join the Gunners. Wenger has few options considering the fact that strikers that have the same profile as Giroud are very hard to find or very expensive.
