Arsenal Looking For Quick Defensive Solutions

Arsenal have big trouble as far as the defense goes. They are also missing a defensive midfielder which makes Koscielny and Mertesacker’s job a lot harder. Unfortunately, changing the medical staff did not pay off. Even though this move was seen as a game changer for the Gunners, it seems that health problems are still impacting the team. With Debuchy out and with Chambers already suffering some muscle issues, Wenger is definitely in need of reinforcements. According to Metro, Vitorino Antunes may be used to try filling in the gaps in Arsenal’s defense. Seen as a low budget solution, the Portuguese international is going to reach the end of his contract with Malaga sometime in June 2016. With that in mind, the North Londoners will try and snatch the 28 year old this January.

Valued at about £2.5million, Antunes is refusing to extend his contract with Malaga. The former Roma defender could be tempted to join Arsenal given the fact that he never has had a good chance to fight for European glory. Even though he won a trophy while in Serie A, he is definitely hungry for more trophies. Considering his low price tag and the fact that he has been a regular for Malaga, Antunes could be an excellent back-up solution for players like Gibbs and Debuchy. The only issue he could have is to not be able to adapt to Premier League football. Monreal had a similar path and has failed to become a team regular after coming to the Emirates as a low budget alternative to Sagna and Gibbs.
