Arsenal Look To Shore Up Shaky Defence With Experienced Cameroon Centre Back

Arsenal are eyeing a move for Torino centre-back Nicolas N’Koulou, according to reports in Italy.

The 28-year-old only moved on a permanent basis to Serie A from Lyon in the summer in a deal with €3.5m, but he has helped Il Toro keep things tight at the back this season, with his side having the fifth best defensive record in the Italian top flight.

Torino have conceded just 19 goals in 19 league games, seeing them climb to ninth in the table with N’Koulou having played every single minute of the Italian club’s domestic campaign.

The Cameroon international plays in a three-man backline; a formation that Gunners boss Unai Emery has employed on a regular basis in recent weeks.

However, the switch in system has not stopped Arsenal leaking goals. The London club have conceded a goal every 61 minutes in the Premier League this season.

Whether N’Koulou is of sufficient quality to improve the club’s defensive solidity, it remains to be seen.
