Arsenal Look To £9m Rated France Under 20 Starlet For Welbeck’s Replacement

Arsenal are tracking Lorient forward Alexis Claude-Maurice, according to the Mirror.

With Danny Welbeck leaving the Gunners when his contract runs out at the end of the June, the club are seeking an economical solution to provide backup to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

A £9m offer could well be enough to land Claude-Maurice, who has made his way through the academy at Lorient.

The France Under 20 international would be a surprising choice considering he’s spent the season playing as a left winger in Ligue Two, but the fact that he has scored 14 league goals, despite playing out wide, has persuaded Arsenal’s scouts that he has the ability to play more centrally.

Newly promoted Norwich City are apparently said to be rivalling the Gunners for Claude-Maurice but there’s no doubt that the Frenchman would prefer a move to the Emirates if given the opportunity.

The 20-year-old is one of a number of forwards Arsenal have been looking at to replace Welbeck with Racing Genk’s Leandro Trossard also believed to be a target.
