Arsenal Linked To Young German Midfielder After Zelalem Loan

Arsenal have decided to loan out midfielder Gedion Zelalem for the rest of the season as the young Gunner has joined VVV-Venlo, a Dutch team that has serious chances of moving to the top tier at the end of the domestic competition.

The reason behind the midfielder’s departure might be related to Wenger’s intention to sign yet another central midfielder. According to the Daily Star an unexpected target has emerged. His name is Leon Goretzka, a 21-year-old who is in his last year of contract with Schalke. The German side are currently 10th in the Bundesliga and may be looking towards next season.

Goretzka is young midfielder who has done a job for the club when asked and he has been playing there since 2013 time in which he made 95 appearances, scored 10 goals and provided 7 assists. These are good numbers for a 21-year-old who has also broken through into Germany’s national squad.

Rumors have it that Goretzka will be available for under £20million and the big question is if the Gunners really do need to spend money on another midfielder or would it be best to wait for Wilshere to return as well allowing Xhaka time to adjust to life in the Premier League.
