Arsenal Linked To International Defensive Midfielder And Left-Back

When it comes to new signings, Arsenal have been pretty quiet this January. Even though some big names have been linked to the Gunners, most of the talk surrounding Wenger’s side has been around contract extensions or recalls of players out on loan.

According to Metro there are two players interesting Wenger right now, players who both have their contract set to expire in 2019.

The first who could be available right now is Portugal international and Euro 2016 winner Danilo Pereira. The 25-year-old currently playing for Porto is the kind of player Arsenal are missing right now. He is similar to Barcelona’s Busquets or to Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic. He is strong and young and could provide competition to Coquelin and Xhaka. He is rumored to have a buy-out clause of around £34.5 million which is a bit too much despite his European Champion trophy. Signing Pereira seems like it could be a long-shot as the Gunners seem to have enough options in the defensive midfield area.

The second player on the list is one of Wenger’s favorite players. It’s Wolfsburg’s Swiss international left-back Ricardo Rodriquez who is well regarded and has been linked to Chelsea amongst other teams in the past – he will probably not be available this winter and might only begin negotiations in the summer. Rodriguez is just 24 and would make a perfect alternative for Monreal who is turning 31 next month.

With 4 days left in the window it will be interesting to see if Arsenal do manage to get these or any other deals over the line before the deadline.
