Arsenal legends praise behind the scenes changes in North London

Arsenal promised changes behind the scenes following a disappointing campaign in the Premier League last season and whilst many hoped that would see Arsene Wenger move away from the club, sticking with the Frenchman is definitely the right choice.

The Gunners have made alterations behind the scenes though as they look to rejuvenate their coaching staff and fight for a Premier League title next season, with a notable addition coming in the form of Jens Lehmann- with the ‘invincibles’ icon joining the first-team as a coach.

Lehmann’s insight should bring better performances from Arsenal’s goalkeepers, particularly the younger ones at the club like Emiliano Martinez and Matt Macey, and two Gunners legends have stated their belief that the new addition will provide a huge boost to the team.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Arsenal hero and World Cup winner Robert Pires said:

“It is good news. I’m very pleased for Jens, he’s a good guy and a good professional. He can help the goalkeepers but not only them, the rest of the squad as well.”

“You need to have a competitive side and Jens has always had that. He’s a great professional. He’s a German too, so he has his own rules. Sometimes he is very strict, but you need to have discipline in the dressing room and Jens is the man to bring that.”

Pires’ views were echoed by another Arsenal legend, Brazilian midfielder Gilberto Silva, who added:

“I am very pleased for Jens and for the club. He is a very professional person and a guy who is passionate for the game. I am sure it will be very important for the club to have him around because he is the kind of person who pushes the other guys when he sees something that is not right. The way he does things is in a very positive way.”

“Maybe sometimes people saw him do things in the past and had a different interpretation of things but the way he was with us, sometimes we laughed. But in the end, we knew he was doing it for the benefit of the team. Sometimes you must have someone like this.”

Arsenal have returned from their pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East, with the Gunners now preparing for the Emirates Cup this weekend. Wenger’s men then tackle Chelsea at Wembley in the Community Shield before kicking-off the new Premier League campaign on Friday 11th August.
