Arsenal legend reveals who he is most excited about watching this season

Ray Parlour has revealed he is most looking forward to watching Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Lucas Torreira in the Arsenal shirt this season, as the Gunners near their 2018/19 opener.

New manager Unai Emery has brought with him a lot of optimism and genuine belief that the club can fight for the title this season, as well as some very impressive signings.

One of those signings is £27m Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira, who shone for his country at this summer’s World Cup before completing his move from Sampdoria to the Emirates. His move to the club has sparked much joy amongst Gunners fans, as he looks like a real force to be reckoned with in the midfield.

He is yet to make an appearance in pre-season but recently began training with his teammates ahead of Wednesday’s match with Chelsea.

Parlour admits he is excited to see Torreira show what he’s capable of in an Arsenal shirt for the first time, as well as saying he is looking forward to Aubameyang to show his full potential as he nears his first full season at the club.

“I’m quite excited to see Aubameyang. It’s his first full season,” Parlour told Boothype.

“He showed signs last year that he can be a real deadly striker. He can contend with players like Salah and Harry Kane for the Golden Boot.

“Torreira looks like a lively player. He’s the sort of player you would need in midfield – great energy and mobile.”

Parlour travelled with Arsenal’s squad to Singapore this summer, so he has seen first hand what Emery is doing behind the scenes. And the former midfielder says he believes the new boss is pushing the players harder than Wenger did in training.

“I think everyone’s pretty excited about the season in front,” he added.

“I’ve been on the plane (to Singapore) with the players and it’s been really lively. Everyone’s enjoying the training so far.

“The training for pre-season has been very good, Unai’s been working them a little bit harder. These are good warm up games for the season with Manchester City in the first game.”
