Arsenal Legend Rates Gunners Trio

Arsenal legend Gilberto Silva has given his opinion on a number of Arsene Wenger’s men. The Brazilian played an integral part in the Gunner’s invincible season, and will forever maintain legendary status as a result.

Many would argue that Arsenal have failed to ever replace Gilberto since his departure. Currently, Wenger is hoping Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka can do the job in his second season at the Emirates. Speaking to 888sport, Gilberto says he is happy with how Xhaka is progressing at the club, admitting this is a big season for the tough-tackler.

“Xhaka is now adapting to the Premier League, and to how Arsene [Wenger] wants things to be done,” Gilberto told 888sport.

“I’ve watched his last few games for the club and I’m happy with how he’s progressing. This season is going to be very important to him but also to Arsenal, because having him as a strong figure in the middle of the park gives them someone to break up play when it is necessary. He is capable of that.”

Gilberto also spoke out about Mesut Ozil, a man who has been under a lot of scrutiny recently due to his rather lacking performances. But Gilberto is a big fan of the German, and says he is getting better and better.

“Ozil has done so well for the club, so I was happy that he listened to those around him and decided to stay at the club. Year on year he is getting better and better, with his ability always improving.”

“It’s so important that he gets the support of those around him as well, to let him do what he does best. The team are supporting him a lot on the field, to help him produce what is expected of him.”

Alexandre Lacazette has been a hit with just about everyone who has seen him play so far, the club-record summer signing has certainly hit the ground running at Arsenal, and Gilberto believes the forward will need to have support from fans if he is to continue his form.

“Lacazette has started well in my opinion. Arsenal spent big money on him, so there were always going to be big expectations. I’m sure he is getting the support of his team-mates and Arsene Wenger but he also needs the fans to support him. If he gets that support and feels embraced, he thinks “okay, I am being embraced, now I must give something back”. He will do well for the club.”

Finally, the Brazilian had some advice for the current Arsenal team as a whole.

“They must want to be close to us guys [the Invincibles], to achieve what we achieved. They must want to write their name in the club’s history books like we did, the side that I am so proud to be a part of. They must prove this to themselves every day. This is how you succeed in football. If you don’t fight, then you will get knocked down. There is little time to relax and once you reach that level there is no going back. You must give 100% every time.”
