Arsenal Legend Diagnosed With Cancer

As reported by Yahoo! Eurosport, Pat Rice, arguably Arsenal’s most loyal servant, has been admitted to hospital and diagnosed with cancer which brought a wave of sadness to anyone associated with the Gunners when the news came out – a testament to Rice’s contributions to the club he served for 44 years.

The 64 year old Rice appeared 528 times for Arsenal after initially joining the youth set-up. He enjoyed success with the Gunners winning the league and FA Cup double in 1971 and becoming captain before leading them to another FA Cup triumph in 1979. He also appeared for his country, Northern Ireland, winning 49 caps.

Rice would be proud of the side he not only managed as a caretaker boss, but also as Wenger’s trusted assistant for many years. From his playing days as a full-back for the club, Rice has been loyal to the Gunners throughout his footballing career, and the club’s community as a whole will be hoping for a speedy recovery for the veteran.
