Former Arsenal attacker Dennis Bergkamp has said he would be interested in a coaching role with suggestions he would join Mikel Arteta at the Emirates.
Bergkamp was an Arsenal legend, he scored 120 goals for the club, in 422 appearances, also contributing 115 assists for the team. He arrived from Inter Milan in 1995, and stayed at Arsenal until 2006.
The Dutchman won three Premier League titles with Arsenal and he was also part of the ‘invincibles’ team that won the 2003/04 league title without losing a single game. Bergkamp also won four FA Cups with the Gunners.
The 55-year-old revealed in a recent interview that he would be interested in taking a coaching role at Arsenal whilst speaking to William Hill.
He said: “I’m at the stage of my life now where I’ve got a bit more freedom with my time – the kids are all grown up now! If something interesting to me were to come along, then I’m sure I’d like to do something like that.”
Bergkamp also said that he believes Arsenal can win a trophy this season under Mikel Arteta: “I really hope Arsenal can win a trophy this season. They’ve been so close for the past few years now, so hopefully the team can find something extra in the next few months to get them over the line.
“It feels like they’re in a stable position at the moment and hopefully the players can make something out of it. If Mikel Arteta can get a bit more quality and belief from the squad, then who knows what might happen!”
Dennis Bergkamp’s coaching career pre-possible Arsenal move
The Dutchman does have experience in coaching roles since he retired from his playing career in 2006 after finishing his career with the Gunners.
Bergkamp began his coaching career as an assistant with the Netherlands B team in 2008. Later in the same season, he returned to former side Ajax as a coach in the youth system.
The 55-year-old then was promoted as Frank De Boer’s assistant head coach at Ajax in 2011, he spent six years in the role before he was sacked alongside fellow assistant Hennie Spijkerman in December 2017.
