Arsenal legend backs Gunners to sign ‘quality’ Marouane Fellaini

Arsenal legend Robert Pires has urged his former side to sign Maruoane Fellaini this summer.

The Belgium international – who travels to this summer’s World Cup as part of Roberto Martinez’s 23-man squad – is out of contract at Manchester United this summer and looks set to move on from Old Trafford.

Fellaini’s former side Everton, as well as both Marseille and AC Milan are understood to be interested in the 30-year-old, as are Arsenal.

New manager Unai Emery is looking to complete a midfield overhaul this summer, and has eyed Fellaini has one of his top targets. The Spaniard had previously asserted his interested in the United star during his time at PSG.

Arsenal’s rumoured interest in Fellaini has been met by backlash from many Gunners fans, however club legend Robert Pires believes the big Belgian could be just the man his former side need.

Asked whether the midfielder would be a good signing for the Gunners, Pires told Sky Sports: “Yeah, why not? Everybody knows Marouane Fellaini in the Premier League.

“Of course last season it was very, very difficult, the relation with Jose Mourinho. But I think he’s a good player, if he wants to join Arsenal I think it would be good news.

“He needs a new start and I think, with his quality, I think he can help Unai Emery and he can help the Arsenal players in the squad.”
