Arsenal Lack The Squad Depth Of Fellow Title Rivals

The Premier League is definitely the most demanding championship in the world. The tempo teams must keep up is incredible and cannot be sustained by clubs that have a small squad of players. At least not if they are aiming high. The top 5 have always had to play their games every 2 or three days apart because of the Champions League or Europa League. Chelsea reached a record 69 games last season which is a lot even for a club as big as Abramovich’s.

Wenger is well aware of the fact that Arsenal cannot win the Premier League by using just 11 players but hasn’t made any moves yet. Modern football is all about high levels of performance so the chances of winning important competitions drop considerably if you cannot use a rotation system to rest some key footballers every once in a while. Even though Ozil, Giroud, Ramsey or Wilshere are hard to replace, the Frenchman will still have to find solutions. The players have already shown signs of fatigue which can be worrying if you consider the long, hard schedule ahead of them.

According to Metro, Wenger will have to work hard to deal with the rigours of the season without adding some depth to his squad in the key areas. When compared to the other top teams his squad is a little thin and he lacks options up front in particular, especially when compared to Chelsea and Manchester City.
