Arsenal Keeping Tabs On Belgian Teenage Wingback As They Look To Strengthen Defence

Arsenal are tracking Anderlecht defender Alexis Saelemaekers, according to reports in Belgium.

The 19-year-old has only recently signed a new four-year contract keeping him with the Belgian Pro League club until 2022.

However, the Gunners and Lyon are reportedly keeping tabs on the right-back in view to a move in the January transfer window.

Saelemaekers has been in good form for Anderlecht having started 17 out of 20 league games so far this campaign. The teenager only made his debut back in February, but he went on to figure prominently in the Pro League playoffs in April and May.

The fact that the Belgian starlet can also play as a wingback may also persuade Arsenal to make a move for the Belgian Under 21 international.

Manager Unai Emery does have Hector Bellerin and Stephan Lichtsteiner to play on the right-hand side, but Saelemaekers would provide another option if the Gunners boss plays with five at the back.
