Arsenal Keen On Swoop For German U21 Star Available On Free Transfer

Arsenal are weighing up an approach for Dynamo Dresden goalkeeper Markus Schubert, according to BILD.

The German newspaper reports the 20-year-old has employed the services of an agent who specialises in negotiating with English clubs.

Schubert will leave Dresden at the end of his contract in June. The keeper came through the academy at the German second division side but has decided to move on.

Arsenal are seeking a replacement for Petr Cech who is retiring from professional football after the Europa League final against Chelsea.

Schubert would certainly be a cost-effective solution, considering he is available on a free transfer. The keeper is highly rated in Germany and was given his debut for the national side at Under 21 level back in September.

He played the final 20 minutes of the 3-0 friendly win against Mexico. The keeper who started the match was Alexander Nubel, who is also reportedly a target for the Gunners.
