Arsenal Join Race To Sign Cardiff City Goalkeeper

Arsenal are preparing an impressive bid for Cardiff’s David Marshall who is set to provide some tough competition for Szczesny. Apparently Wenger seems set on giving the Gunners’ current goalkeeper a worthy adversary in order to motivate him more. With Viviano returning to Italy after his 1 year loan and with Fabianski seeking to become a 1st team regular after signing for Swansea City, Marshall may well be just as important as the striker Arsenal so badly need. According to The Telegraph, the 29 year old who spent most of his last five years playing for Norwich City and Cardiff, might be keen on taking a step up even if this means he might lose his spot as a team regular.

There might be a bit of a setback with Marshall who is currently valued at £15million which is a lot for a goalkeeper who has yet to prove himself against world-class adversaries. His lack of experience, despite his age might prevent Wenger from spending so much money on a player who may not even get to play during next season.

There is also not that much room for negotiation considering Marshall just renewed his contract this February. Add to that the fact that Tottenham are lined up for his signature as well and you get a very complicated deal which Arsenal could easily set aside until they solve more important squad problems especially up-front where Giroud has been left all alone during the 2013-2014 season.
