Arsenal are interested in signing Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Italian website claims that the Gunners will challenge the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham for the 27-year-old’s signature.

Rabiot scored for France in their opening World Cup group game against Australia earlier this week and, with his contract set to expire in June, he can enter talks with foreign clubs about a free transfer in a matter of weeks.

For their part, Juve are still keen to keep hold of the player, but his wage demands are proving to be an issue. He is currently earning around €7m a season (approximately £115,000 a week), but he wants a salary above €10m.

Rabiot’s agent is his mother, Veronique, and she is a notoriously tough negotiator. Manchester United tried and failed to agree personal terms last summer so it will be up to Gunners sporting director Edu to decide whether the player is a worthwhile signing.
