Arsenal defender William Saliba is a doubt for their next game against Brentford on Wednesday night.
The Gunners come off a 1-1 draw against Chelsea, which saw them extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points. They face off against the Bees on Wednesday with a potential chance to take an eight point lead at the top of the table.
However, going into the game, Arteta has some injury concerns, including to both of his centre-backs Saliba and Gabriel. The latter is expected to be out until the end of the month with a groin injury, with Arteta saying that he is still “weeks” away.
Saliba missed the game against Chelsea on Sunday with a small injury, and he remains a doubt for the game against Brentford on Wednesday night.
Will Saliba play against Brentford?
The French international will likely be back at least for the weekend against Aston Villa, but it is not yet clear whether he will feature against Brentford on Wednesday.
Mikel Arteta said in his press conference on Tuesday: “I am not going to be able to help you much today, because we have another training session later and, until that happens, we won’t know what is going to happen with a few of the doubts we have.
“He had a little niggle, but I think it is going to be a matter of days. So, let’s see if he is able to do that tomorrow.
“The ankle one (the injury Saliba had in August) was a really random one, a very unlucky action that kept him out for a few weeks. He tried at Anfield and he wasn’t comfortable, and he had to stay away. And this one as well is very bizarre, but hopefully it will be a matter of days.”
As things stand, Saliba looks as though he may be fit to feature against Brentford, but whether Arteta decides to start him or not is another question. If not, he will likely go into the game with Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera instead.
