Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly will have a “scan” on a knee injury ahead of the match against Wolves this weekend, according to The Standard.
The teenager was absent from the matchday squad for the 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb and that was due to a fitness issue.
Lewis-Skelly sustained the injury during the 2-2 draw against Aston Villa last weekend and, as well as missing the match on Wednesday, he is also a doubt for the Wolves fixture.
Manager Mikel Arteta was asked about the fullback following the victory against Zagreb and he explained the situation:
“I am not sure [if he will play against Wolves]. He jarred his knee in the game against Villa and he thought it was okay when he finished the game. The next day it wasn’t bad and then yesterday he wasn’t feeling right, and so he started the session and he wasn’t feeling good. So, we need some more tests tomorrow. Hopefully, it is nothing big, but the games are coming very fast.”
Lewis-Skelly has been a key player for Arsenal in recent weeks
Despite only being 18 years of age, the defender has started 5 of the last 7 league games, having also played in the FA Cup tie against Manchester United, the Carabao Cup quarter-final clash versus Newcastle and the Champions League fixture versus Monaco last month.
Even though more senior players such as Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney have been available for selection, Arteta has opted to keep faith with Lewis-Skelly, and that has been justified by his excellent performances.
Other Arsenal injury news
In addition to Lewis-Skelly, William Saliba is unlikely to face Wolves, with Arteta stating he is hopeful of having him back for the game against Manchester City at the start of February.
Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are believed to be closing in on a return from their respective knee injuries but Bukayo Saka (hamstring) and Gabriel Jesus (ACL) are long-term absentees.
