Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard and teammate Mikel Merino have been pictured in training ahead of the game against Girona on Wednesday evening.
The pair missed the 1-0 win over Wolves at the weekend due to separate problems. Odegaard had to withdraw from the squad on the morning of the match having been struck down by illness.
Merino, meanwhile, had picked up a knock in the build-up to the fixture, but neither player was expected to remain on the sidelines for long.
It will be a major boost for manager Mikel Arteta who will not only have the duo available for the Girona fixture but also for the crucial Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday.
Arsenal received more good news on Tuesday night
Myles Lewis-Skelly was set to miss the next three domestic fixtures after being sent off during the victory against Wolves.
However, an independent panel decided that his red card at Molineux was incorrect and he will be available for the Gunners’ upcoming matches against Man City, Newcastle (in the Carabao Cup) and Leicester.
Speaking after the club successfully appealed Lewis-Skelly’s suspension, Arteta expressed his delight about the outcome:
“Obviously really happy that the decision has been made and Myles is going to be available for us. He was sleeping on the plane when I looked back and I got the news, so I haven’t spoken to him, but I imagine a big smile on his face.”
Latest Arsenal injury news
With Odegaard and Merino back in contention, four first-team stars remain on the treatment table. Ben White is closing in on a return from a knee injury, having been out since undergoing an operation in November.
However, the likes of Takehiro Tomiyasu (knee), Bukayo Saka (hamstring) and Gabriel Jesus (ACL) remain long-term absentees.
