Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard is set to miss the next nine matches with a knee injury, keeping him out until November.
The Norway international suffered a knee injury during Arsenal’s last game against West Ham at the Emirates before the international break. It has forced the Gunners’ captain to withdraw from international duty to recover.
It is a huge loss for Mikel Arteta as his captain has shown some of his more impressive form recently against Newcastle United and Olympiacos especially, Odegaard will now be out of action until after the November international break. BBC Sport broke the news on Monday afternoon.
Amid the heart-breaking news for Odegaard, Arsenal fans have been reacting to the news on X…

A huge blow but Eze and Nwaneri are more than capable. Will need Odegaard fully fit and healthy for the remainder of the season https://t.co/P6S3jkgG40

On this I blame Arteta. There was no need to play Odegaard in this match. He had not even fully recovered

If you look at the fixtures Odegaard is going to miss its actually not too bad at all
Should be well able to win them with Eze at 10

Who will Arsenal replace Odegaard with?
The obvious choice as pointed out by the Arsenal fans is to play Eze as the attacking midfielder in Arteta’s side. However, Eze can’t play 90 minutes every game, so Arteta will have to consider other options in midfield too.
Mikel Merino has played both in midfield and up front for Arteta before, so the Spanish international could also help to fill in for Odegaard in midfield. Ethan Nwaneri hasn’t had much of an opportunity for Arsenal this season.
The 18-year-old may now get more of a chance as he is a difference-making midfielder, who provides something different to the likes of Eze and Merino.
