Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said the Gunners did “everything” they could to get Eberechi Eze fit for the Carabao Cup final.
The 27-year-old was a notable absentee from the squad for the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend, and asked about his fitness prior to kickoff, Arteta said:
“We tried everything [to get him fit for the game], but unfortunately, he, Martin [Odegaard], Jurrien [Timber] and Mikel [Merino] are out.”
Eze has suffered a calf injury, and he has also withdrawn from the England squad for their friendlies against Uruguay and Japan. He is expected to undergo a scan in the next week to determine how long he will be out for.

William Saliba
The centre-back has an ankle injury, and like Eze, he has withdrawn from international duty.
The French Football Federation has released a statement regarding Saliba’s fitness:
“William Saliba is unable to join the French national team’s training camp, which begins this Monday, March 23. The Arsenal centre-back is suffering from recurring pain in his left ankle, requiring treatment and a minimum rest period of ten days.”
This injury appears to be a recurrence of the one that kept the 24-year-old from playing against Brighton and Mansfield Town earlier this month.
Expected Return Date – Unknown
