Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka could be set for a longer absence than previously predicted, according to reports.
The Gunners are still hoping that the 23-year-old will be back in training by the end of February in view to making his return to first-team action in early March.
However, Daily Mail journalist Sami Mokbel, who is usually very reliable when it comes to the Gunners, claims Saka’s comeback could be delayed by UP TO A MONTH.
It was not initially anticipated that the forward would need surgery but he underwent a procedure last week and Mokbel says that “may extend his layoff into April.”
How many games could Saka now miss?
If the winger’s return is delayed, it means that he could be sidelined for up to 10 league games, including fixtures versus Tottenham, Manchester City, West Ham, Manchester United and potentially Chelsea.
Of course, it goes without saying that Saka will also not be available for the two legs of the Carabao Cup semi-final versus Newcastle, the FA Cup third-round tie against United, as well as the two remaining Champions League fixtures before the knockout phase.
Arteta has provided better news on the fitness of other Arsenal players
Manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Kai Havertz is likely to feature against Brighton this weekend, having recovered from illness. Raheem Sterling (knee) won’t be fit to play the Seagulls but he could be back in training next week.
Ben White is still believed to be some weeks away from making his comeback. The defender had a knee operation in November and he is still in rehabilitation. Takehiro Tomiyasu, meanwhile, is dealing with his own knee problem which has kept him sidelined for most of the season. The Japanese international has played just 6 minutes, having made only one substitute appearance versus Southampton back in October.
