Arteta Issues Concerning Injury Update On Key Arsenal Star Ahead Of Atalanta And City Fixtures

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says he does not know the extent of Bukayo Saka’s injury problem after he was substituted in the North London derby at the weekend.

Asked about the winger’s fitness in his post-match interview, Arteta replied:

“Suddenly he went down and said he couldn’t continue and we had to take him off.”

When Arteta was then questioned about Saka in a subsequent press conference, the Spaniard said he wasn’t sure about the nature of the injury:

“I don’t know. I made two changes with the front players and suddenly he’s down. I don’t know exactly what it is but he could not continue.”

The Arsenal forward has suffered a leg injury

The 23-year-old sat down on the turf with just over ten minutes left to go at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and physios were pictured stretching his left leg.

It is very likely to be a muscular injury of some kind, either a hamstring or thigh issue. Depending on the extent of the problem, he could recover in days or perhaps weeks, but you wouldn’t expect him to be absent for the long term.

Will Saka be fit to face Manchester City?

The Gunners will take on Atalanta in their first Champions League fixture on Thursday night and it is safe to say that the England international is a major doubt to play in that game, considering how he exited the pitch against Spurs.

Fans will, of course, be keeping their fingers crossed that Saka will be available for the top-of-the-table clash against City this weekend.

Arsenal are already without another key player, Martin Odegaard, for that match so it would be a big blow for Arteta’s team if they have to travel to the Etihad without Saka too. Supporters will be keenly anticipating an update from the club over the coming days.
