Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Gabriel Martinelli picked up a suspected hamstring injury during the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
The Brazilian went down just before half-time at St James’ Park and he was taken off as a precaution. Arteta says the player will have a scan to determine the extent of the problem:
“He (Martinelli) felt something, I think it was his hamstring and he wasn’t comfortable to continue so we will have to have an MRI scan tomorrow (Thursday) to see the extent of the injury.”
Arsenal have a 10-day gap before their next match against Leicester City so it will be hoped that he is back in contention by then.
