Arsenal are one of four clubs interested in Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.
Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid are also keen on signing the 28-year-old, who is expected to be sold when the transfer window reopens.
However, it appears that the prospect of the Gunners signing Koulibaly is remote, with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis reportedly standing firm on his €100m (£88m) valuation.
Considering the Senegalese international will be 29 next month, it would be a big surprise if any club matched that asking price, especially in light of the current global situation.
Arsenal are said to be looking around for another centre-back in the summer, with Reims’ Axel Disasi and Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Nunez being linked. However, with those players costing around a fifth of the price of signing Koulbaly, it seems implausible that the Napoli star will be on the club’s radar.
The defender likeliest to sign for the Gunners is Pablo Mari, with the London club having the option to sign the Spaniard on a permanent basis from Flamengo.
