Arsenal In Pole Position To Sign Basel’s Fabian Schar

Arsenal could sign one of the most promising defenders who will be available during the January transfer window. Fabian Schar has refused to sign a new contract with Basel even though his deal is set to expire in the summer of 2015. According to Metro, he will be available for free in June. Wenger should not wait for that long though. The 22 year old center back could help the Gunners get through some really difficult times. With many injured, Schar could get the chance to become part of the starting eleven but also to perform against some major adversaries right from the start of his career at the Emirates.

On paper, the youngster looks like a great deal for Arsenal who have been looking for a defensive solution for a while now. Hopefully, the Swiss international is the right man for the job. In what could be an even more interesting strategy, Wenger might lure Schar to North London by signing Juventus defender, Stephan Lichtsteiner who is also close to joining Arsenal. His approval to come to the Emirates could help tip the balance in favor of Arsenal in a major way. With such an interesting young player available for free, offers are going to be flying in from every side. Bringing in both defenders could solve a lot of problems for the Gunners who have been missing speed and strength throughout the defense.
