Arsenal Having To Drop Expensive Targets For This January

There are many rumors regarding the transfers Wenger will make this winter. With the squad decimated by injuries and with the defense having great trouble in all competitions, Arsenal were expected to make at least three expensive transfers. As far as opportunities go, there are some players who could really help the Gunners with their game. Unfortunately, according to the Daily Mirror, the transfer budget will only allow one of those players to join the Emirates side.

Arsenal’s boss has a £20million budget which means he will have to forget about players like Hummels or Reus who will cost more than that. He will also have to forget about signing Casillas or Alves who would gobble up all the transfer budget. There are some solutions though which could fill in the gaps.

Currently Wenger has three options which seem within reach. The first would be Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk who has been scouted by Arsenal for the past couple of weeks. The second and third players who could become Gunners in January are harder to approach due to the fact that one is playing for Manchester United and the other is Aston Villa’s captain.

Chris Smalling and Ron Vlaar are cheap solutions and could definitely do a better job as central defenders than Monreal does. The Spaniard is currently a last resort which does not seem to hold up in the Premier League. Hopefully some transfers will be made this winter and at least one of the three will make it to London.
